Happy Valentine's Day!

We had so many wonderful submissions for our contest that it was hard to choose the winners.  The nominations captured our hearts and the following families will receive a photo session and be featured on our website.  We look forward to meeting them and capturing the Love in their lives! Thank you to all that sent us nominations.

Here are our contest winners.  Stay tuned in the next few weeks as we unveil their session images.

The McCallum Family
Cheron nominated her family and the fact that her family opened not only hearts but their home touched us.  She says "Everyone in my home has given something of value to them to make everyone feel as comfortable and complete as they possibly can... Thats what family is all about...WE ALL "Capture the Love" on a daily basis, whether by ourselves or ALL together!"

Elisabeth Laskey
Danna nominated her 22 year old daughter who is working hard on her recovery and loves to pose for pictures.  This photo session "would put a smile on her beautiful face"

The Peavey Family
Melanie nominated her friend, Sarabeth Peavey, and her family.  "Sarabeth and James have had a year of challenges and trials, Sarabeth and family "capture the love," by focusing on joy, others, and love. Whenever any of her friends is struggling or has a need, she is the first to offer support.  What makes Sarabeth so inspiring is that despite her pain, her tiredness, and her struggles, she chooses to reach out rather than to lash out. She loves her family, she loves her friends, and she has her eyes open for strangers and acquaintances that need love.

Bob and Edie Johnson
Nicole says of her grandparents, "At 78 and 76 years of age they can still dance with the best of them, literally. People are amazed at their relationship after every hardship the two of them have faced.  I believe in my heart that my Grandparents deserve this opportunity because they love everyone unselfishly.  I have watched them literally give their last dime away so that no one has to do without.  They way they, kiss, talk, and still argue with the best of them is like something out of a novel.  I have many cousins who have admitted that they knew my Grandparents would be there even when their own father wasn’t.

Who knows, we may still have another 20 years with them but it would really mean a lot for them to have the opportunity to have professional portraits that showcase a love that many of us long to know."

The Smith Family
Jessica nominated her son, David who is a very special miracle to her.  "As a parent, you want your children to be like you. I want to be like David. I want to be friendly and positive and always wearing a smile. I want to be happy and playful even when I'm sick and don't feel good. I want to find the positive in the negative. I want to take the assets I have and do more with them than anyone expected."

The DeMerritt Family
Erica nominated her husband because he is an "awesome father, and I am so lucky to be married to him.  I am so happy that he is finally experiencing the unconditional love between a parent and child and the beauty of having a family. He had such an ambivalent relationship with his own parents it is incredible that he is such a loving and caring father. He is the perfect daddy-o and you can see this in every interaction he has with his two boys!"

We hope everyone has a great Valentine's Day and does something special for those that mean the most to them!

A Celebration of Love

Every August 1-7 the breastfeeding community celebrates World Breastfeeding Week. The week is designed to celebrate the signing of the Innocenti Declaration on the Protection, Promotion and Support of Breastfeeding. It is celebrated in 120 countries on various dates.

This is a week near and dear to my heart! As some of you may know I am not only a photographer, but a mom who breastfed and a Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). I have worked with mothers and babies for almost 10 years and find that some of the same skills I use as a LC relate so well to photographing mothers and their babies.

On July 30th, I had the responsibility and honor of proctoring the board exam for Lactation Consultants here in Atlanta. It was great meeting some of the ladies sitting for their first time as well as those that were sitting for recertification at 10 & 20 years. It was interesting to remember taking the exam 4 years ago as I watched my mentors take the test a 3rd time (they all are recertifying at 20 years).

I wish all the candidates luck and hope to hear in October that ALL of you passed!

In celebration of WBW I have selected some of my nursing pictures from my recent sessions that show babies from just born (baby Lyllia nursing minutes after her birth with her brother watching intently) to almost a year old (Ian carressing his mother's face as he nurses).

I am also offering a special WBW discount for baby sessions booked during this week. Please call the office for more details!!!

Have a great week!

Yesterday The Georgia Birth Network held our annual Bellies In Bloom event. I am happy to report that the event looks to have been a success. The planning committee is tired and will be resting up before going over the notes and evaluations to being planning next year's event which will be bigger and better! Nichole, Jennifer and I want to thank all our volunteers, vendors, sponsors and speakers who helped make the event a success!

Lots of parents getting information! Vendors ranged from maternity services to financial planning and just about everything in between!

Lynn showing off the products from Melaluca and Harmony with Arbonne who had some WONDERFUL baby products and skin care

Amanda & Jennifer at the
GBN Doula Table talking with Talitha from Sugar Sprouts

One of the things we did was to display artwork and belly casts throughout the area. Thanks to my clients for allowing me to use their images in these displays and thanks to Jenica for bringing the belly casts. Here are some pictures of the event.

A BIG THANK YOU goes to all my clients who came out and supported the event and to see their photographs displayed! Especially Katherine and Alyssa got a sneak peek at some of their images! Here's a slideshow of some of the images that were displayed in the common areas and at my table.

Congratulations to Michelle Stille who won one of our door prize photo sessions. If you did not win a door prize you can still get in on a chance to win one! How you ask??? Well... Just book* your photo session date with us before May 30th and you will be entered in the drawing! (*booking made before 5/30 with $25 deposit, sitting must take place before 12/31/07)

Last but not least.... Lyllia, who I am photographing for her 3 month session next week got a chance to practice her smiles for me after having a snack!

Bellies In Bloom

Before focusing on photography full-time I was a full-time Lactation Consultant. I love working with mothers and babies as a photographer and as a LC. I am very proud of the work I have done and continue to work with the doulas, childbirth educators and midwives in the Georgia Birth Network providing education and care for their clients. I think that the education and insight I use as an LC adds to the portraits I take of infants and their families. The bond between parents and children is amazing and so evident even in the first moments after birth.

As part of GBN, I am on the committee planning and putting on our annual Bellies In Bloom Event. I'd love to invite all our past clients and prospective clients to come see our work and visit with the other vendors at the event. I will be speaking as well as will be one of the vendors so come by and see me!

Bellies In Bloom is being held on Saturday, May 19th, 2007 from 10:00am to 4:00pm at the Hyatt Regency Suites Northwest on Windy Hill Rd in Marietta.

It will be a day filled with guest speakers, interactive demonstrations, door prizes, silent auction and exciting vendors who will pamper and educate expecting and new families. Admission is $5 per person, children under 12 are free.

I am speaking on Breastfeeding at 10:15 and will be followed each hour by presentations on Dads and Doulas, Waterbirth and Other Options for Hospital Birth, Healthier Pregnancy and Easier Labor, Natural Family Planning and Homebirth

Bring a friend on me! Print this flyer and 2 adults get in for the price of one! Stop by In The Moment's booth and register to win a family portrait sitting or bid at the silent auction on a Year in The Life package.

We'd love to see you there!
